American-Made Digitizing Utilities Prize: Innovating for a Sustainable Future
The American-Made Digitizing Utilities Prize recognizes innovative solutions to address the rising amount of data in the utility industry, while accelerating electrification and renewable energy integration.
By 2026, energy demand from data centers, AI and cryptocurrency is expected to double. Globally, data centers’ total electricity consumption could reach more than 1,000 TWh – roughly equivalent to the electricity consumption of Japan, according to the IEA. If we are to meet our carbon reduction goals as a society, indeed as a planet – much more electrification is needed. But that generation must come from renewable sources.
Dominion Energy Collaboration: Accelerating Renewable Energy Integration
Our work with Dominion Energy is strategic in a number of ways, but perhaps no area is more important than the ability to improve capacity planning. By providing an automated way to “graph the grid,” we enable Dominion planners to rapidly accelerate hosting analyses and greenlight the building of more renewable energy, more rapidly, for more utility customers eager to make the switch to clean energy. Using our Hosting Capacity tool, Dominion has the potential to enhance the speed of renewable energy grid integration by a factor of 10x – all while improving grid reliability and security.
The solution now in use at Dominion for Phase I of the DOE prize program is actually the product of many years of work with the utility to understand their planning processes, work with their T&D teams, and collaborate with our partners at Right Analytics. Secondly – but by no means less significantly – we have won the Inc. 5000 award for the fourth year in a row. Why is the Inc. 5000 important? As a small business, the Inc. 5000 is a huge accomplishment, and the fact that we are a “four-peat” winner even more so.
